Program Details
The Department of Physiology, Shridevi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Hospital,
organized a guest lecture on the topic “Physiology of Sleep and Sleep Disorders – From
Mechanism to Clinic” on 14th March 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Hospital Auditorium.
The session was delivered by Dr. Ravindra P.N., Additional Professor and Officer In-charge,
Centre of Consciousness Studies, Department of Neurophysiology, NIMHANS. The program
was attended by MBBS undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and faculty
members from various departments.
The lecture commenced with a formal welcome address by the Department of Physiology.
Dr. Ravindra P.N. delivered an insightful and interactive session focusing on the physiology
of sleep, mechanisms regulating sleep cycles, stages of sleep, circadian rhythm, and the
clinical aspects of common sleep disorders. The speaker also highlighted the importance of
adequate sleep in maintaining physical and mental health and discussed recent advances in
sleep medicine and diagnostic approaches.
The session lasted for approximately one and a half hours and was highly informative and
engaging. Students and faculty actively participated in the discussion and clarified their
doubts during the interactive segment. The lecture helped the participants gain a better
understanding of the neurophysiological basis of sleep and its relevance in clinical practice.
Following the lecture, the speaker was felicitated by the faculty members as a token of
