
National Pharmacovigilance Week – 2024

Program Details
National Pharmacovigilance Week was organized from 17th to 23rd September 2024 by the Department of Pharmacology at Shridevi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Hospital, Tumakuru, with the objective of creating awareness regarding Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting, patient safety, and rational use of medicines.
The program was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine and included various awareness activities for healthcare professionals, MBBS students, and the general public.
The event was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Sparsha Deep E M, Professor and HOD, Department of Pharmacology. As part of National Pharmacovigilance Week, awareness programs were conducted at UHTC Kuripalya by delivering speech in local language by Dr. Mohammed Ziauddin Sarkhil and RHTC Bellavi by delivering speech in local language by Dr. Ashwini P Singh on 19th and 20th September 2024 to educate the public regarding ADR reporting and medication safety.
Training sessions were also organized for doctors, postgraduate students, and nurses to improve knowledge regarding Pharmacovigilance practices and patient safety measures. Various student-centered activities including role play and flash mob performances were conducted with active participation from Phase II MBBS students.
These activities helped in spreading awareness among the public in an interactive and effective manner. Students enthusiastically participated and demonstrated real-life scenarios related to medication safety and ADR reporting.
The program significantly enhanced awareness regarding Pharmacovigilance among healthcare professionals, students, and the community. The event was conducted successfully and contributed towards promoting safe medication practices, patient safety, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community-based healthcare awareness activities as part of institutional academic and extension initiatives.
