Organized by: Department of Dermatology, in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, SIMS & RH
On the occasion of World Vitiligo Day, the Department of Dermatology, in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, conducted an awareness program on 25th June 2025 at SIMS & RH.
The event commenced with a poster presentation competition for 3rd Phase MBBS students. A total of 16 teams enthusiastically participated in the competition. The posters were judged by a distinguished panel consisting of:

Dr. Nalini, Professor, Department of Pathology
Dr. Bhavana, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry
Dr. Vinod, Consultant Plastic Surgeon
The inauguration ceremony followed the competition and was chaired by:
Dr. Harendra Kumar, Principal, SIMS & RH
Dr. Mohan Kumar, Medical Superintendent, SIMS & RH
Dr. Rekha Gurumurthy, Vice Principal, SIMS & RH
An introductory talk on vitiligo, its course, and treatment options was delivered by Dr. Vathsala S, Professor and Head, Department of Dermatology. This was followed by an informative session on “Facts and Myths about Vitiligo” by Dr. Somshekar, Professor, Department of Dermatology, specifically aimed at patient education and awareness.
Subsequently, prizes were distributed to the top three teams in the poster competition. The third prize was shared by two deserving teams.
The program concluded with the distribution of educational information sheets to patients and attendees, followed by high tea.
The event was a successful effort to raise awareness about vitiligo, dispel common myths, and promote empathy and understanding towards individuals affected by the condition.
