About The Department

The Department of Microbiology at SIMS&RH was started in 2013 along with diagnostic microbiology laboratory located in the Central Diagnostic laboratory. In 2020 NABL accredited Diagnostic molecular laboratory was also started. The department of Microbiology consists of qualified, dedicated and well experienced faculties.
Laboratory plays a vital role in diagnosis of various infectious disease including outbreaks. It works 24×7 and provides services in various diagnostic sections like Bacteriology, Mycobacterology, Immunology, Serology, Virology, Parasitology & Mycology.

Our diagnostic microbiology laboratory well equipped with biosafety cabinet, automated blood culture, ELISA washer & reader, CLIA Nephalometric analyzer etc.
The department is also actively involved in implementation of infection prevention control program and Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme.
The department has enrolled in EQAS program conducted by CMC vellore which aims to deliver quality results.

To establish a centre of excellence for diagnostics in the field of Clinical Microbiology with a commitment to provide quality microbiological diagnostics , Infection Control and antimicrobial stewardship practices as per international standards.

To promote and achieve excellence in research by encouraging a scientific mindset , enhancing and strengthening infrastructure and facilities for research.
